We can supply graphics for all commercial vehicles using a wide range of coloured and/or holographic and reflective vinyl. Other vinyl signs and artwork are more intricate. Whilst they can still be self-applied, we offer an optional fitting service if required, and recommend an initial consultation to discuss design and layout. We will also provide an illustration of how the finished work will look for your approval.

If however, you already know what you want, your design is not too intricate, and you fancy doing it yourself, below are some handy design hints and advice, followed by simple steps to apply your signage yourself. This of course is the most economical way to go, and mail order is a speciality.

Self-Design Hints & Tips

If you come to us directly for vehicle signage, a transit van, for example, will cost between €350-900 and we will normally require your van for at least a day.  An out-of-hours and weekend service is also available to reduce vehicle down-time.

Ordering direct allows you to do a bit at a time, saving you off-the-road time as well as cost.

DESIGN TIPS FOR LETTERING
Remember: more often than not your livery is being read whilst your vehicle is in motion - so clear, bold, readable text is recommended!

Different fonts & boldness/italics/colours should highlight your name, or name of the business. Vehicles are not always white, so choose colours that will contrast well against the background colour. If the vehicle is a dark colour, say transit blue, and your corporate colour is blue then choose either a lighter or darker blue and highlight your name with either a black or white outline.

It is always better where possible to contain your design within the panels of the vehicle, using the left panel for your name and the right for a brief description of your services. Sometimes for a variety of reasons this is not possible.

Bear in mind you will need a sharp knife/scalpel to cut through the lettering at door gaps and bodywork-joins, after application. Also, application is a bit more tricky when applying over raised or recessed panel edges.

Telephone numbers work well when separated, utilising the panel lower down.

LETTERING SIZE
It is a good idea to draw a rough sketch of both sides, rear and front of the vehicle filling in the panel sizes and available space sizes first, then decide what text you want and where. A good rule of thumb is the height of the letter multiplied by the amount of letters in the line will be approximately equal to the length of the line. Of course this varies, depending on the font used, but don’t worry - when ordering, you can specify the length and we will adjust accordingly.

GRAPHICS AND LOGOS
We can reproduce any graphic or logo to your specified size providing you e-mail or post suitable artwork. There will be a one off set-up charge for this, depending on the quality of artwork and the complexity of the design. We will quote you separately for this on receipt of artwork. We will keep your design on file with a reference number that you can quote for future re-ordering, thus avoiding this charge again.

Computer Cut Self-Adhesive Vinyl Application

We computer cut your choice of lettering and weed out all excess, leaving the lettering on a waxed-base backing paper. We then apply a special (pick up) tape which allows you to transfer the complete line to your vehicle, sign board or window etc. So - no problems with straightness or inter word and letter spacing, allowing you to pick up the lettering in a straight pre-spaced line

1. Clean and de-grease surface (methylated spirits works well), and apply any border striping a few millimetres in from the edge of the board/panel.

2. Measure the distance from the top of sign to where you want the bottom of the first line of text to be and make a small mark underneath at both ends using a normal ball point pen (meths will remove the marks when you have finished).

3. Lift the tape with the lettering (assist with knife when necessary) from the backing sheet.

4. The lettering is extremely sticky, especially if being applied to a gloss surface. If you’re not sure you can position accurately the first time, then spray the sign surface lightly with water. Just a fine mist is sufficient. (a normal household spray bottle is fine) providing you do not apply pressure to the lettering; this will allow repositioning.

5. When in position apply pressure to the lettering using a plastic applicator, working from the centre, up and down, squeezing out any air or water.

6. Continue the same way with further lines until your sign is complete.

7. Spray the whole sign with water and allow a few minutes for the water to soak into the tape.

8. Carefully remove the tape from left to right, keeping it flat to the surface and at a slight angle, leaving the lettering behind.

9. Large bubbles (if any) can be removed by pricking the outer edge of the bubble with a sharp knife/scalpel and squeezing out the air or water towards the prick with your finger. As the vinyl matures it shrinks slightly and also breathes, so small bubbles will disappear by themselves after a while.

10. If you have used water, carefully dry sign with a soft absorbent cloth or kitchen towel and remove any pen marks with meths.

11. Apply any outlining dry and carefully remove tape. Rub down the outline with your finger to ensure a good bond.

12. Logos and multicolour graphics are applied in the same way. They will normally be supplied complete but in some cases application is better achieved in stages.

Congratulations! Your sign is complete and is ready to use - bear in mind that vinyl takes a fortnight to fully mature - so handle with care.

If you’ve read the above and fancy trying it yourself - have a go at trying some designs/lettering/spacing on your PC in, for instance, “Word-Art”.  If you’re happy with your design, measure-up where it is to fit, and try pricing the job on the
ORDERING page (don’t worry - we can do this for you if you like).

call at any stage to talk through your requirements
